Fashion Trends and “appearing low-class”
Tim and I have had some interesting conversations recently, and one of the main veins of these discussions has been fashion, particularly what he calls “America’s obsession with appearing low-class.” Lots of the irrational behaviors of Americans can be explained by this, according to him. Starting My Steampunk Pointer
Well, on May21st I was introduced to steampunk computer hardware for the first time, thanks to Jake von Slatt’s “The Steampunk Workshop.”
(Edit: This is not to say that this is my first exposure to steampunk. I’m a fan of Arcanum, a game which, until recently, I wasn’t aware anyone else in the world still played, and wikipedia says it has a “cult steampunk following.” I guess I just wasn’t aware I was part of that following. Oh, and apparently FMA and some other stuff I love is considered steampunk-esque by some. So even if this was my first formal introduction to steampunk, it was not my first exposure.)
So I’ve been looking at some steampunk things on the net and was terribly dissapointed by the few steam-punked pointing devices I’ve seen. The mouse mods just seem out of character to me, and as I was musing on this I had the idea of making a pointing device based off of a joystick and basing it roughly off of the appearance of a throttle from an old boat or aircraft.
